Overview
Students should decide on a school/program to attend prior to completing the study abroad application. Please review the following checklist so that you are prepared and have all required documents when you apply. If your application is incomplete, it will not be considered, so it is very important that you have the materials ready in advance. If you have any questions please contact our office or email the regionally appropriate study abroad adviser.
- Complete the UH Hilo Study Abroad Application form.
- Complete Two UH Hilo Study Abroad Recommendation Forms.
- Attach your Personal Statement.
- Submit all forms to the
CGEE office before the specified deadline.

- Brazilian Seminars (July) Homestay option and Intensive Portuguese Language workshop available
England, University of Essex
Note: Program will resume in Summer 2024
- Two-week summer program (July) at the Colchester campus. Includes social activities and excursions.
- Courses studies include: Applied Economics, Management and Marketing, International Business Law, and Data Science
Application Deadline: May 1
Cost: £1,485 includes tuition, accommodations, sports center access, social activities and excursions.

- Over 100 courses, each course provides 1 credit
- 1-2 Week Program ranging June to October of 2023
- Tuition fees are waved for UH Hilo students

Japan, Nanzan University
Japanese Program in Nagoya, Japan:
- Course A: 8 weeks of intensive Japanese
- Course B: 4 weeks of intensive Japanese + a 4-week company internship
- Course C: 4 weeks of intensive Japanese

Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Program in Fukuoka, Japan:
- Session 1 (2-week Japanese Intensive Program)
Period: June 26th -July 6th, 2023
Levels: Introductory Japanese Class only (1 level) - Session 2 (4-week Japanese and Culture Program)
Period: July 10th - August 4th, 2023
Levels: Beginning to Advanced Classes (4 levels) - Session 1+2 (6-week Japanese and Culture Program)
This is a combined program with Session 1 and Session 2.

June 27 - July 21, 2023 Summer Program:
During this 4 week long program students will take one major course covering the topics of Korean society, culture, arts, economics and more. Students will also take 5 special lectures along with cultural activities (6 total credits).
Details about the application will be released in March 2023.

South Korea, Hanyang University
Take courses in seven distinct areas of study whild participating in cultural and recreational activies (7 credits total).
Four Week Program: 3rd July 2023 to 28th July 2023

South Korea, Sogang University
International Summer Program June 26 - July 21, 2023: Take a class or two while also participating in a club activity, buddy activity, and field trips every Friday in and around Seoul.
The Application Period is from January 2nd to May 19th, 2023.

South Korea, Ewha Women's University
(Tuition and application fee waived for exchange students)
Take up to three courses (9 credits total) in Korean Language and 6 other major areas of study while participating in cultural events at Ewha University. This summer program is co-ed.
- Session 1 (four weeks): June 26 - July 24, 2023
- Students joining Session 1 can choose from approximately 30 courses in the fields of Arts & Music, Business & Economics, East Asian Studies, Humanities, Social Science and Science & Engineering. They may also choose to take Korean Language classes.
- Session 2 (two weeks): August 3-17, 2023
- Students joining Session 2 will take Korean language classes and special lectures on a variety of topics.
Application Deadline: May 17 (session 1), June 23 (session 2).

Seoul Women's University
Online Korean Language Course (PDF):
This course is an introduction to Korean alphabets, grammar, and culture for students who have no (or very limited) prior knowledge of Korean. The goal of the course is to provide a foundation that will enable students to acquire and develop integrated skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in Korean.
Program Dates: March 2 - June 15, 2023

- Credits: 3 credits (3 hours per week for 15 weeks)
Taiwan, National Taiwan University
NTU Plus Academy offers 20 topic-based short-term programs in Chinese Studies, Natural Science, Social Science, Arts and Research & Internship. Each program has different start and end dates.

If you are a freshmen or new transfer student to UH Hilo we suggest that you start participating in class discussions and meet with your professors during their office hours to discuss your intent to study abroad. As a courtesy you should ask your recommenders for permission as well as provide them with your personal statement before starting your application.
