Water Related Rentals
Let us help you explore our Hawaiian waters! We have a selection of water related rentals to help you get out on the water. All Rentals can be reserved and paid for Mon-Friday 9am-4pm. Pick-up is every Friday 7am-5pm with drop-offs on Mondays before 5pm.

Double Kayak
Kayaks Rentals
Includes a lifejacket & paddle. Rent a one or two-man kayak.
This kayak is 8 ft. long with a weight capacity of 250 lbs.
Please note: Tie-down straps are not provided.
Paddleboarding in Hilo Bay
Stand-up Paddleboards Rentals
Includes a lifejacket & paddle.
Paddleboards come in varying sizes up to 12 ft. and various colors.
Please note: Tie-down straps are not provided.
Inflatable Paddleboard
Inflatable Stand-up Paddleboards
These inflatable SUP are great if you don’t have a truck or roof-rack as they pack down and fit into most trunks!
Includes a lifejacket, paddle, inflatable SUP and a pump.
Water Rental Hours
This is a day rental program. You may rent from 7:00 am and return to SLC by 5:30pm on the same day.
Days and times to check out water related equipment:
- Monday through Friday: 7:00 AM till 5:30 PM
- Saturday and Sunday: 12:00 PM till 5:30 PM
All equipment must be returned by 5:30 PM the day of rental. If an SLC worker is not available, pleaes leave the equipment with the lifeguards. Please bring the equpiment to the back gate when returning. Do not bring it through the lobby.

Life Vests
It is recommended that all riders wear a life vest while in the water. The SLC has vests available for loan, along with the equipment.
How many craft are available?
We have a limited amount of kayaks and SUPs available. With your kōkua we are able to rent the equipment out consistently and be able to keep them in good repair for future users.
Late Fees and Rules
The following information is about our Late Fee Policy:
- If the craft is not returned that day, the "One Strike Policy" will begin to take affect.
One Strike Policy
Late Return/Improperly Transported Equipment
Warning: After the first time that water-related equipment is not returned on time, you will be issued a warning. A warning may also be issued if it is discovered that you have not properly transported the craft issued to you.
- Strike 1:
- After the second time that water-related equipment is not returned on time, your borrowing privileges will be suspended 1 month and you will be issued a second strike. You will also receive an automatic strike 1 if the equipment comes back damaged or related equipment (paddles, life vests) are missing. In the event of damage, you be held to a financial obligation until repairs or replacement of damaged equipment have been completed. A strike may also be issued if it is discovered that you have improperly transported the equipment issued to you for the second time.
General Rules
- All Rentals are first come, first serve. There is no waitlist.
- All water equipment must be returned each day by 5:30pm
- Any and all issues need to be reported to Campus Recreation as soon as possible.
- Paddle at your own risk, Campus recreation is not responsible for any damage or injuries.
- You are responsible for all damage that you cause to the equipment.
- You must follow all applicable state and federal laws while on the water.
What if there are no more boards/boats available?
Equipment is checked out on a first-come-first-served system. Sorry, we do not take reservations.
