Imua Fitness Classes

    Campus Recreation Department provides numerous opportunities for patrons to meet their fitness goals. Qualified staff and resources are available for group and personal instruction in a wide variety of classes such as Zumba, Yoga, Boot Camp, Total Body Conditioning and Spin. Non-credit activities are also available to provide educational experiences for a wide variety of interests. The activities offered include Dance, Martial Arts, and Self-Defense. All Imua classes are free to members.

    Fitness classes

    Fitness Class Descriptions - (Fitness Classes for Spring 2023) Begins on Tuesday: January 18th - May 5th!

    Zumba® - (Offered in-person) Every Mondays,Tuesdays,Thursdays,Fridays
    5:00 PM - 6:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    Zumba Fitness is a full hour class which includes international dance choreography that includes salsa, merengue, samba, and other fitness and dance variations which focuses on cardiovascular endurance training.

    Dance Fitness (Modern Dance) - (Offered in-person) Every Wednesdays
    5:00 PM - 6:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    Modern Dance is an exploration of storytelling through music and dance. This class is geared towards beginners and the instructor will go over general skills, feeling comfortable in your own body, rhythms and timing, flexibility, and simple choreography.

    Spin - (Offered in-person) Every Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Tuesdays and Thursdays
    6:45 AM - 7:45 AM AND 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM(Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    This class is an "indoor cycling" which focuses on endurance, strength, intervals and high intensity cardiovascular endurance training using our world-class Keizer stationary bike. It also includes a mixture of fast sprints, hill climbs, interval and strength training exercises that will sure to give you a great workout! You will also be guided and pedal along a stationary bike along with the instructor.

    Vinyasa Flow Yoga - (Offered in-person) Every Tuesday and Thursdays
    9:00 AM - 10:00 AM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    The practice of yoga can help improve your flexibility, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems. Yoga can also brings stability and clarity to your mind, body and soul. In this class you will learn proper alignment and breathing techniques as well as postures that can enhance your mobility.

    Fit Boxing - (Offered in-person) Every Tuesdays and Thursdays
    6:00 PM - 7:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    This class will consist of a total body workout where you will learn how to properly punch and kick using your own body. It will also focus on a high level of cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, and also challenge your reflexes. We will provide the upper and lower body punching pads. Please bring your own boxing gloves to class!

    Pilates and Yoga Fusion - (Offered in-person) Every Tuesdays and Thursdays
    Noon - 1:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    Joseph Pilates developed the kind of exercise known as Pilates which focuses on building core strength while also strengthening the rest of the body. This contributes to your general well-being and overall improvement. In this class, you will learn various pilates and yoga exercises that will help to improve your flexibility, core strength, balance, posture and overall strength and stability.

    Movement and Meditation - (Offered in-person) Every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
    4:00 PM - 5:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    Movement and Meditation is a class built on the framework of Ruesi Datton, Aka Thai Yoga, and has an emphasis on a period of seated meditation. In the beginning, participants are led through a gentle warm-up consisting of a series of joint mobilization movements and dynamic stretches. Once everyone finds a seated position that is comfortable for their body, a five minute mediation begins. The first minute of meditation is guided with tips on how to be mindful of the breath, the remainder is a silent meditation period. After the meditation, the more engaging movement practice begins participants are led through the daily featured movements, a cool-down, and finally savasana (aka, resting pose). The movements are adapted to fit the skills and interests of the participants, inspiration is drawn from Hatha yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Ruesi Datton, Qigoing, Dance gymnastics, sports stretches, physical therapy, and our imaginations, The goal is to foster strength, aglity, and flexiblity in the body and mind. Class ends with a subtle energetic cleansing and space for anyone to share insight and/or annoucements. Suitable for all experience levels since each movement has modifications to adjust level of intensity.

    Stretch and Recovery Class - Begins on Tuesday; Jan. 24th (Offered in-person) Every Tuesdays and Thursdays
    7:00 PM - 8:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    This class is made up of beginner friendly yoga poses, pilates exercises and stretching. Exploring simple techniques geared towards reducing tension and pain from everyday life and it's stresses.

    Please note: All participants must sign up for the class online with waiver before attending any of the above Imua fitness classes. Cancelled classes will be posted outside of the studio.

    Lifestyles and Body Composition Workshop - (SPRING 2023)

    Come and join us for a complimentary Body Composition analysis and lifestyles and fitness workshop with Dr. Ozan Atalag and Valerie Yamaki. Receive an analysis of your current body fat and BMI as well as learn some new health and fitness tips that can help improve your overall health goals! Please meet inside the Campus Recreation Department office - conference room.
