    Campus Recreation and Wellness provides numerous opportunities for patrons to meet their fitness goals. Qualified staff and resources are available for group and personal instruction in a wide variety of classes such as Zumba, Yoga, Boot Camp, Total Body Conditioning and Spin. Non-credit activities are also available to provide educational experiences for a wide variety of interests. The activities offered include Dance, Martial Arts, and Self-Defense. All Imua classes are free to members.

    We are very excited to announce our newest program to the Campus Recreation Department called CampusWell. CampusWell is a health and wellness initiative for, universities, colleges and high schools located in the US and Canada. CampusWell's mission is to assist in spreading the word of the eight dimensions of wellness and wellbeing. It shares the importance of student's wellbeing which can have a positive impact on their academic performance.

    Fitness Classes and Description for Fall 2023 (Begins on Monday; Aug. 28th - Dec 8th)

    Zumba®
    Offered in-person

    Zumba Fitness is a full hour class which includes international dance choreography that includes salsa, merengue, samba, and other fitness and dance variations which focuses on cardiovascular endurance training.

    Tuesday and Thursday
    6:45 AM - 7:30 AM

    This class is an "indoor cycling" which focuses on endurance, strength, intervals and high intensity cardiovascular endurance training using our world-class Keizer stationary bike. It also includes a mixture of fast sprints, hill climbs, interval and strength training exercises that will sure to give you a great workout! You will also be guided and pedal along a stationary bike along with the instructors.

    Fit Boxing

    6:00 PM - 7:00 PM__

    This class will consist of a total body workout where you will learn how to properly punch and kick using your own body. It will also focus on a high level of cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, and also challenge your reflexes. We will provide the upper and lower body punching pads. Please bring your own boxing gloves to class!

    Vinyasa Flow Yoga

    Vinyasa Yoga is a path of self-discovery, mindfulness, and refreshment rather than merely a physical activity. This session invites students of all levels to explore the beauty of movement, breath, and inner silence, regardless of whether they are seasoned yogis or are just getting on the mat for the first time. Join us to discover Vinyasa Flow's transforming potential. Some of the poses includes Sun Salutations, standing and sitting poses, balancing asanas, plank positions and many more invigorating exercises.

    Wednesday

    Hula Ola is a hula class for health, wellness, and fitness. This class intergrates alignment of the body, mind and spirit through the foundational practices of traditional hula protcols. This class is appropriate for beginners who would like to explore the foundations of Hula and learn more about the culture. (Please note: Hula lole designated for a committed hula practitioners at another Halau should only be used there, not for this class).

    Hatha Yoga

    Hatha Yoga is traditional yoga practice where it focuses on breath, harmony, self-discovery and equilibrum. A calmness and serenity will flow through your body as you perform various yoga stretches and poses while listening to relaxing music. Each class will begin with a calming breathwork, following body and connection awareness.

    This class is designed to incorporate a blend of functional movements, cardiovascular exercises and strength training. You will also be using your own body weight and some plyometric exercises. You will also learn how to use a variety of exercise equipment such as free weights, resistance bands, medicine balls, kettlebells. This is a total body workout which will get your body moving and heart-pumping!

    Jujitsu
    Offered in-person

    Tuesday and Thursday
    7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

    In this class you will learn the art of self-defense emphasizing on technique, strategy, and mental toughness. You will also build stamina, strength, and improve your overall functional fitness level through the art of skills and technique. As you step onto the mat you will immediately begin to feel the energy of community and learn some martial arts skills.

    Spice it Up!

    Monday
    5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

    Come and groove, move your muscles, and build your confidence! This class includes learning a new 32 count dance each week. Beginners are welcome and it will include a quick warm-up, dance choreography, and a cool-down. Music includes pop, hip hop, and jazz tunes. It's recommended you bring a towel, comfortable clothes that you can move and groove with and shoes!

    Core and Flex

    Tuesday and Thursday
    7:00 PM - 7:45 PM

    This class is 45 minutes in duration and it will help to strengthen your muscles in your core, lower back, hips and pelvic region. You will work your core muscles through a variety of specific exercises which will help to improve stability, balance, and support your everyday activities. It will include a 15 minutes stretching that will help you to improve your flexibility and mobility!

    Yoga and Meditation

    8:00 PM - 9:00 PM

    Looking for a way to wind down and relax after a long day, this is the class for you! This class is a great way to calm down and take a well deserved break from the everyday "stresses" of life. You will be guided through some yoga exercises, following a relaxing meditation practice. The yoga mats, blocks and straps will provided to you! It's recommended to bring a towel and water bottle :-)

    Please note: All participants must sign up for the class online with waiver before attending any of the above Imua fitness classes. Cancelled classes will be posted outside of the studio.

    Lifestyles and Body Composition Workshop - (Fall 2023)

    Come and join us for a complimentary Body Composition analysis and lifestyles and fitness workshop with Dr. Ozan Atalağ and Valerie Yamaki . Receive an analysis of your current body fat and BMI as well as learn some new health and fitness tips that can help improve your overall health goals! Please meet in the Campus Recreation and Wellness office - conference room.
