    The Campus Recreation and Wellness Department provides numerous opportunities for patrons to meet their fitness goals. Qualified staff and resources are available for group and personal instruction in a wide variety of classes such as Zumba, Yoga, Boot Camp, Total Body Conditioning and Spin. Non-credit activities are also available to provide educational experiences for a wide variety of interests. The activities offered include Dance, Martial Arts, and Self-Defense. All Imua classes are free to members.

    UH Hilo Campus Recreation and Wellness is part of Rec Movement. These are virtual fitness classes offered by UH Hilo and over 150 other colleges Campus Recreation Departments across the country. Visit the sign-up page to get more information.

    Fitness classes

    Fitness Class Descriptions - (Fitness Classes for Summer 2023) Begins on Monday; May 21st - August 11th!

    Zumba® - (Offered in-person)
    Every Fridays
    6:00 PM - 7:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    Zumba Fitness is a full hour class which includes international dance choreography that includes salsa, merengue, samba, and other fitness and dance variations which focuses on cardiovascular endurance training.

    Spin - (Offered in-person)
    Every Tuesdays and Thursdays and Saturdays
    5:00 PM - 6:00 PM AND 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM(Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    This class is an "indoor cycling" which focuses on endurance, strength, intervals and high intensity cardiovascular endurance training using our world-class Keizer stationary bike. It also includes a mixture of fast sprints, hill climbs, interval and strength training exercises that will sure to give you a great workout! You will also be guided and pedal along a stationary bike along with the instructors.

    Fit Boxing - (Offered in-person)
    Every Tuesdays and Thursdays
    6:00 PM - 7:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    This class will consist of a total body workout where you will learn how to properly punch and kick using your own body. It will also focus on a high level of cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, and also challenge your reflexes. We will provide the upper and lower body punching pads. Please bring your own boxing gloves to class!

    Upward Bound - (Offered in-person only to incoming UH Hilo freshman students)
    Every Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays
    2:30 PM - 4:00 PM (Please meet inside aerobics room 2)

    The upward bound program is a free year round program offered to high school students which provides services and activities base on social, academic, financial, emotional, and Health and Well-being support. The instructor for this class will teach you some fitness and weight training exercises that will help "kick-start" your fitness journey to exhilarating new heights! Please be sure and wear comfortable workout shoes and clothing that you are able to move freely around in.

    Please note: All participants must sign up for the class online with waiver before attending any of the above Imua fitness classes. Cancelled classes will be posted outside of the studio.

    Lifestyles and Body Composition Workshop - (Fall 2023)

    Come and join us for a complimentary Body Composition analysis and lifestyles and fitness workshop with Dr. Ozan Atalağ and Valerie Yamaki . Receive an analysis of your current body fat and BMI as well as learn some new health and fitness tips that can help improve your overall health goals! Please meet inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Department office - conference room.
