    Campus Recreation and Wellness provides numerous opportunities for patrons to meet their fitness goals. Qualified staff and resources are available for group and personal instruction in a wide variety of classes such as Zumba, Yoga, Boot Camp, Total Body Conditioning and Spin. Non-credit activities are also available to provide educational experiences for a wide variety of interests. The activities offered include Dance, Martial Arts, and Self-Defense. All Imua classes are free to members.

    Rec Well Personal Training logo Start the new semester on the right path and begin your fitness journey in 2024 with our customized training program that will embrace and enhance the best version of yourself! You will learn how to properly weight train and develop a healthy lifestyle that will increase your energy, stamina, strength, mobility and train in a safe manner. You will also receive a customized workout plan and a individual consultation with the trainer as part of your first session!

    In order to enroll and sign up for a Fitness Training session(s), please come to the Campus Recreation Department Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. and see Debbie Pina beginning Monday; January 8th! All training sessions must be paid in advance in order to reserve your spot! You can also schedule an appointment with Debbie Pina by either emailing her at dpina@hawaii.edu or (808) 932-7611 and make your payment and reserve your 1st appointment with the Fitness Trainer.

    Cancellations of all Fitness Training appointments must be made within 24hrs. A refund will not be issued if cancellations are not made within 24 hours before your scheduled appointment!

    Fitness Class Descriptions for Fall 2025

    Fitness Classes for the Fall 2025 semester begins on Tuesday; Sept. 2nd. Check individual class descriptions for a detailed weekly schedule below!

    Hula

    Experience the beauty and tradition of Hawaiian culture through hula! This class introduces participants to the basic steps, hand motions, and storytelling elements of both ʻauana (modern) and kahiko (traditional) styles. Each lesson blends gentle movement with cultural history, teaching students how hula expresses the stories, values, and natural elements of Hawaiʻi. No prior dance experience is required — all levels are welcome. Come ready to move, connect with the music, and gain a deeper appreciation for Hawaiʻi’s rich cultural heritage in a supportive and uplifting environment.

    Zumba Fitness

    Get ready to move and groove in this high-energy Zumba class! Set to an exciting mix of upbeat music, this dance fitness workout combines exhilarating moves from salsa, hip-hop, reggaeton, and more, making it a fun and effective way to burn calories while boosting your mood. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned dancer, this class is about letting loose, having fun, and breaking a sweat. No dance experience is needed—just bring your energy and a smile as you shake, shimmy, and step to the beat! It’s the perfect workout to get your heart pumping and leave you feeling empowered and refreshed!

    Power Half and Hour (Spin)

    Start your day with a powerful blend of peaceful focus and energizing movement. This early-morning cycling class is designed to wake up your body and mind with motivating intervals, upbeat music, and the uplifting energy of the sunrise. Guided by an experienced instructor, you’ll push through dynamic rides that challenge your endurance while celebrating your progress along the way. As the morning sky glows with pink and orange, you’ll feel the rush of endorphins, leaving class refreshed, accomplished, and ready to take on the day!

    Morning Flow Yoga

    Begin your morning with a balanced yoga practice designed to gently awaken the body and mind. This class combines flowing sequences, breathwork, and mindful stretching to improve flexibility, release tension, and enhance focus for the day ahead. Whether you’re looking to build strength, increase mobility, or simply find a calm start to your morning, this class offers a supportive space for all levels. You’ll leave feeling energized, grounded, and ready to take on whatever the day brings.

    Ride and Renew (Spin)

    Get ready for an energizing indoor cycling workout designed to boost your cardiovascular endurance, burn calories, and keep you motivated from start to finish! This high-energy spin class combines upbeat music, interval training, and varied resistance levels to simulate hills, flats, and sprints. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned rider, you’ll be able to tailor the intensity to your fitness level. Our instructor will guide you through a fun and challenging ride that improves stamina, strengthens lower-body muscles, and leaves you feeling accomplished. Come ready to sweat, push past your limits, and enjoy a fun group atmosphere!

    Fit Boxing

    Ideal for anyone looking into getting in shape andsupplement their martial arts training. This class incorporates training skillsin boxing and kickboxing. You will build your strength, speed, stamina,resistance, and balance from this class. There are also drill and boxingtraining so be sure to bring your MMA gloves, if you have a pair.

    Wednesday Unwind

    A restful midweek practice to unwind your mind and slow down. In this class, we focus on letting go through intuitive movements. You will be encouraged to go within and notice what feels good in your body and how your body wants to move. We will begin with gentle movements to bring us out of the mind and into the body, to soften into stillness through meditation and yin postures. This practice is perfect for someone who has a lot on their mind and is looking to drop back into their body.

    Core Power (C1) Yoga

    CorePower Yoga's C1 classes are designed to introduce beginners to the fundamental principles and postures of Vinyasa yoga, focusing on linking breath to movement. These classes are unheated and offer a foundational experience for those new to yoga, or anyone wanting to build a strong base in the CorePower style.

    Gentle Yoga

    This class is a slow, mindful practice designed to awaken the body and mind, preparing for the day ahead. It promotes flexibility, circulation, and stress reduction to bring about a sense of balance and peace. It will typically involve gentle stretches, breathing exercises, and longer holds, making it accessible to all, including beginners.

    Abs and Core

    The goal of this abs and core class is to tone and strengthen the lower back and abdominal muscles. This class consists of a range of movements intended to strengthen overall functional strength, improve posture, and strengthen the core, such as crunches, planks, leg lifts and a variety of other ab exercises. This class is perfect for people who want to strengthen and stabilize their core, improve their athletic performance, and lay a strong foundation for their fitness regimen.

    Jujitsu

    Rooted in traditional Japanese martial arts, Danzan Ryu Jujitsu blends self-defense techniques with physical conditioning and mental focus. This class emphasizes throws, joint locks, escapes, and falls in a safe, supportive environment. Students will build strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence while learning practical skills that can be applied both on and off the mat. Open to all levels, no prior experience required!

    Please note: All participants must sign up for the class online with waiver before attending any of the above Imua fitness classes. Cancelled classes will be posted outside of the studio.

    Lifestyles and Body Composition Workshop - (Fall 2025)

    Come and join us for a complimentary Body Composition analysis and lifestyles and fitness workshop with Dr. Ozan Atalağ and Valerie Yamaki. Receive an analysis of your current body fat and BMI as well as learn some new health and fitness tips that can help improve your overall health goals! Please meet in the Campus Recreation and Wellness office - conference room.
