United Nations Day

Each year the International Student Association celebrates United Nations Day with an event highlighting the many different countries represented at UH Hilo. UH Hilo is home to about 250 international students from nearly 40 different countries around the globe. The event is intended to engage the campus community so that they learn about these different countries around the world -- their achievements, characteristics, and challenges -- as well as to bring international students together as a community and highlight their presence on campus.

Friday, October 20, 2023
10:00 am-1:00 pm on the Library Lanai

The program includes two main parts:

Parade of Nations: 11:30 am-12:30 pm
Students representatives will march in a Parade of Nations showcasing the traditional attire. Each country will have a flag bearer carrying their nation's flag. During the Parade, the Master of Ceremonies will provide information about each country.

Country Tables: 10:00 am-1:00 pm
Countries will have tables displaying interesting information about their country along with display boards, maps, pictures and/or handicrafts representative of their country. Attendees will have an opportunity to "visit" each country.

The celebration will conclude with a special performance by the Samoan club.

Free Teapresso drinks for the first 50 students who visit each table!

More than ever before in Human history, we face a common destiny. We can master it only if we face it together. And that, my friends, is why we have the United Nations. Quote from Kofi Annan. Celebrate United Nations day with UNA-USA on October 24.
