Students riding camels through the SaharaAt the end of my freshman year in high school, I was asked to write a paragraph about where I saw myself in five years. I wrote about how my dream was to study abroad in a different country and travel to new places. I even drew a little picture of me in Africa watching some locals play soccer to really exemplify what I wanted to see. Thanks to some hard work and UH Hilo's Study Abroad program, my dream came true! My name is Litah Campbell, I study Gender and Women’s Studies, and I spent my 2017-2018 year at the University of Birmingham in England.

I would like to say that my favorite memories involved riding camels in Morocco, dancing at Oktoberfest in Munich, running through the tulips in Amsterdam, and Scuba Diving in the Canary Islands but, honestly, my favorite memory is coming up with weird games in a park with my housemates. Don't get me wrong, I loved the experiences I had while traveling and will never forget them (Seriously, scuba diving in an underwater museum was amazing) but, out of the seven countries I travelled to while abroad, I never laughed as much as when I was just hanging out with my friends. So, I guess, in the end, the places I went to were amazing, but the people I lived with and met were even better.
