Tabitha in Scotland

Tabitha Pacheco | Psychology major - University of Birmingham, United Kingdom

My name is Tabitha Pacheco at the University of Birmingham, studying Psychology. While in England, I got the chance to visit Scotland and it was absolutely breathtaking. I got to witness the city and country views. I also got to see the castles and understand the rich history of each part of it. There is no other way to describe that experience except breathtaking. They have an amazing history and traditions that you see past all the stereotypes that are placed on the Scottish. It was life-altering to go into a country where you only believed their stereotype, just to walk out and have this deep appreciation for it.

I got to see highland cows which are the cutest cows I have ever seen in my life. I got to see the leaves change and learn about the history through the extraordinary museums they have. I even got to see the Scottish Parliament and where the Queen stays when she visits. I made friends with some of the people I was staying with, which allowed me to broaden my horizons even further. I also got to start a collection of snow globes which I am now expanding and got to hear people playing bagpipes live. My favorite part was the food that I got to experience. Learning about their history reminded me of Hawaiian history and made me feel even more connected to the country and its people. Before I decided to go to Scotland, I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it because of the things I heard about it, but it now has a special place in my heart. The first picture is of the beautiful Edinburgh Castle and the second picture is of this beautiful hilltop that overlooks the Highlands, its story is that men would herd sheep up the hill and then rest on it grateful to have made it to the top with a beautiful place to rest. It was a powerful story and stuck with me for weeks after hearing it.
