A Memorable Journey

Although there have been a lot of numerous events that have transpired throughout this semester, my most recent trip to Edinburgh was definitely one of the most memorable. I had initially wanted to see ‘The Elephant House’ cafe since that was where J.K. Rowling had wrote The Sorcerer’s Stone, and since it was one of my last days in Scotland, a good friend I had made decided to meet up with me. I arrived early and enjoyed a nice walk down Princes street and paid a little visit to Scotland’s national gallery, and despite the gray blanket of clouds that covered most of the city and the brisk breeze that cut through my coat, the weather felt unusually pleasant. I then met up with my friend and we began our trek up to the cafe, and when we came across it I got very excited. I’m a big Harry Potter fan and the cafe itself gave off such a nice atmosphere. It was casual and served great food, and I highly recommend it to anyone coming to Scotland.

This is a vegetarian pie with mash and gravy at 'The Elephant House' cafe. Super delicious, and decently priced too

When my friend and I were done with our meal and ready to set off, the temperature had dropped significantly and the clouds had slowly begun to part. The setting sun and sky was absolutely beautiful, and it was wonderful to see the city’s Christmas lights twinkling against the trees and buildings. It really was a sight to behold, despite how cold it was! Thinking back on it now I realize that this probably wasn’t the most exciting thing that happened during my time in Scotland, but it was very special to me. I really felt like I was walking through a new but increasingly familiar world, and the company of my friend made me feel totally welcome amongst the crowds of people streaming through the streets. I was sad to leave, but now I am more than ready to return.
