Parent & Family Orientation
Congratulations! You are now the proud ʻohana of a Vulcan! We are honored that your student has chosen to spend the next four years with us at UH Hilo. Rest assured that they have made a great decision. The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is a wonderful place to get a degree. We have amazing faculty members and numerous campus resources that are available to your student to support them in becoming the successful graduates we know they can be.
We encourage you to join your student on day 1 of NSO (January 7th). Cost per ʻohana member to attend orientation is $35.00 and should be paid in advance online. If you wait until the day of orientation to pay, payments will be accepted via credit card only. This fee is to cover the cost of your meal at the orientation and other materials that you will receive as part of orientation.
**When students sign up for New Student Orientation (NSO), they will need to submit their ʻohana name(s) and email address(es) for the system to generate an email invite for EACH ʻohana member.
**ʻOhana participation in NSO is on Thursday January 7th, 2027 and runs from 10am-3pm
Student IDs - Students were given specific parameters for the type of photo they should upload when they sign up for NSO - If they did not follow this or did not upload a photo, their ID card will not be pre-printed - This will NOT prevent them from accesing their student meal plan or the Student Life Center.
For students, orientation is on Thursday January 7th and Friday January 8th with activities that flow into the first week of instruction.
