A Summer of Culture

Tabetha Zapata-Mitz

Standing in front of a shrine

In just three short weeks, I learned so much about Japanese culture, created unforgettable memories and formed lifelong friendships with girls from all across the globe. I was a part of Showa Women’s University summer program that allowed me to explore the vibrant Tokyo lifestyle while learning about the rich traditional history of Japan. The lectures included a traditional tea ceremony, kabuki performances, anime, calligraphy, cuisine and more! The most memorable part of the program was staying with my homestay family where I got the chance to experience an authentic Japanese family’s home and lifestyle.
