Social Media Briefing
Thinking about creating a social media account? Think through these questions and see if this is the next step for you.
Account Administrator: Who will be handling the account on a daily basis?
Purpose: Why are you establishing a social media presence?
Objectives/Goals: How does social media fit with your overall organizational goals? Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely. What do you plan to achieve with this account?
Target Audience: With so many social media networks out there, you may be tempted to join all of them, but think of who you are trying to engage with. Who will be reading and commenting on your social media? What is your current relationship with this audience?
Platforms: Referring to your target audience, which platform(s) are they currently on? Do you currently have a presence there?
Voice: What is the tone you’d like to use for your audience and their interactions with you? Do you have any current social media influencers within your department?
Execution and Maintenance: How often will you post? How much time are you going to spend on each platform? Be consistent in your posting and post strategically rather than constantly.
Monitoring: Who will respond to posts and comments on your account? Who will engage with your audience?
Evaluation: What does success look like for you?
