Diversity Recruiting Resources

Developing a diverse pool of highly qualified applicants is essential for UH Hilo to effectively serve our students and achieve our goals. The search committee plays an important role in actively recruiting candidates. To assist search committees in their recruiting efforts, the EEO/AA Office has assembled a list of diversity recruiting resources.

Publications & Websites

  • Academic Diversity Search: A.D.S. is a nationwide employment resource specializing in connecting women and minorities with academic institutions that truly value diversity.
  • disABLEDperson: A public charity organization focused on increasing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The organization hosts a job fair for people with disabilities and provides a resume databank for employers to identify candidates. For a small fee, employers can post job advertisements.
  • Diverse Issues in Higher Education: This publication, previously known as Black Issues in Higher Education, considers itself the portal for diversity information in higher education. Annually, the magazine provides a listing of top degree producers which shows which institutions are producing the most diverse undergraduate and graduates. The publication has a job posting service in print and on its website.
  • Diversity Nursing: This website indicates it is the nation’s leading online service for diversity nurse recruitment and career development for all nurses regardless of age, race, gender, religion, education, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or physical characteristics. They provide top-quality recruitment services and networking opportunities, while linking under-represented nursing candidates to healthcare employers around the country.
  • Faculty for the Future: Faculty for the Future is a resource to connect female and underrepresented candidates in science, business, and engineering to faculty and research positions.
  • Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education: Published bi-weekly, this publication is a primary resource for issues pertaining to Hispanics in higher education. The publication has a job posting services in print and on its website.
  • Tribal College Journal: This quarterly publication of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium provides journalistic and scholarly articles that highlight issues critical to American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
  • Women in Higher Education: WIHE is a monthly publication that focuses on issues specific to women in higher education. The publication reaches thousands of women in higher education. Employers have the option of advertising in the newsletter or using their web only posting service.


  • Compact for Faculty Diversity: The Southern Regional Education Board oversees the Compact for Faculty Diversity project. The Compact has developed a directory that consists of scholars from these participating organizations and programs: the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), the National Institutes of Health (Bridges to the Professoriate NIGMS-MARC), the National Science Foundation Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP), the National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellows Program and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (SLOAN). The directory contains contact information for over 1,000 doctoral scholars and PhD recipients from the aforementioned prestigious programs.   • Ford Foundation Fellows: The directory lists individuals who have been awarded Ford Foundation Postdoctoral fellowships since 1980 and Predoctoral and Dissertation fellowships since 1986. The directory serves as a resource for university officials seeking to diversify their faculty.
  • University of California Postdoctoral Fellows: University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was established in 1984 to encourage outstanding women and minority Ph.D. recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California. The current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships, faculty mentoring, and eligibility for a hiring incentive to qualified scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity at the University of California. The website lists current and previous fellowship recipients who could be recruited for faculty positions.

Associations & Societies

  • American Association of University Women: AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. The organization has over 1,000 branches and 500 college/university partners across the U.S. Their online career center reaches 100,000 members.
  • Asian/Pacific Librarians Association: APALA is an affiliate of the American Library Association that has been in existence for over 20 years. The association’s website allows for posting of job advertisements.
  • Association of Black Psychologists: The Association has over 1400 members. They publish a news journal, Psych Discourse, which is the primary source for communication among the membership. The publication allows for online posting of job advertisements.
  • Association for Women in Science: AWIS is a nationwide advocacy organization dedicated to achieving equity and full participation for women in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Their website allows organizations to post job advertisements.
  • Black Caucus of the American Library Association: BCALA serves as an advocate for the development, promotion, and improvement of library services and resources to the nation's African American community; and provides leadership for the recruitment and professional development of African American librarians. The organization’s website allows for posting of job announcements
  • Chinese American Librarian Association: CALA is an affiliate of the American Library Association that has been in existence for over 30 years. There are seven active CALA chapters across the U.S. and members throughout several countries. The organization’s website allows for posting of job advertisements.
  • Minorities in Agriculture and Natural Resource Related Sciences: MANRRS promotes academic and professional advancement by empowering minorities in agriculture, natural resources, and related sciences. Their website included contact information for student chapter advisors and lists job opportunities
  • National Association of Black Accountants: NABA represents the interests of over 100,000 African-American professionals in the fields of accounting and auditing, finance, consulting, and management information systems, as well as a host of other career tracks relating to finance functions.
  • National Indian Education Association: NIEA is focused on improving educational equity and access for American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian populations. It is the largest and oldest Indian educational organization.
  • National Black MBA Association: NBMBAA’s Employment Network links corporations with NBMBAA members, diverse MBA holders and job seeking candidates through the National Black MBA Association's on-line job board. Organizations can post positions and search one of the largest professional resume databases in the country.
  • Native Hawaiian Education Association: NHEA connects a network of Native Hawaiian educators to focus on Native Hawaiian educational issues. The organization, adapted from the National Indian Education Association, was established in 1998.
  • Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Sciences: The mission of the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) is to encourage Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary for science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels. Their website allows employers to post jobs.
