Specialty Chunk Honey
The honey used in Lava Bee specialty chunk honey is a delicate mixed honey produced by bees at the UH Hilo Farm apiary. At the UH Hilo Farm, frames of honey are harvested several times during the year and the change in the taste of the honey reflects the change in the nectar sources used by the bees to produce the honey. The harvested frames of honey are cut into unique shapes using specially designed cutters into pieces that can be used to sweeten a variety of foods. Primary floral sources used during the year by the bees include macadamia, lychee, mango, and coffee. each blend is distinctly different but subtle in flavor.
