The Lā Honua Earth Day Committee welcomes students, staff and faculty from Hawaiʻi Community College and University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo to join us in celebrating Lā Honua ~ Earth Days 2025 with events from April 4th to April 22nd. Our theme this year is I Ola ʻOe, I Ola Au, Together We Thrive.

Mālama Honua Activity - Lāʻī

Details: Learn about the significance of lāʻī, then beautify the library common areas by planting tī and controlling invasives

Details: Keynote presented by Penobscot Nation cousins Sherri Mitchell -Wehʻna Haʻmu Kwasset, an Indigenous rights attorney, activist, spiritual teacher, author, and transformational change maker; and John Bear Mitchell, Wabanaki Storyteller, Singer, and Drummer as well as Wabanaki Studies and Multicultural Studies Educator at the University of Maine in Orono.

Mālama Honua Activity - Nahele

Details: Mālama the Hilo rainforest; a restoration morning with an hour-long workshop on native and canoe plant uses
