The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Student Association (UHHSA) is a Chartered Student Organization (CSO) authorized by the University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents to receive and manage the mandatory student government fee.

Serving in UHHSA is more than just a leadership role—it’s an opportunity to represent your peers, shape campus life, and gain hands-on experience in governance, policy, and decision-making. Through UHHSA, students develop valuable skills while helping to strengthen the UH Hilo community.

Senate Eligibility Requirements

Requirement #1-All Applicants:

  1. Must be a UH Hilo student enrolled in at least 1 credit at UH Hilo for the Fall 2026 semester.
  2. Maintain a minimum of a 2.0 semesterly and cumulative GPA.
  3. Must be free of any code of conduct sanctions.

Requirement #2-Position Specific Requirements:

  • Executive Positions (President, Vice President, Data Director, and Treasurer):
    • At least one year of experience with student organizations in a university setting (Desired but not Required)
  • College of Agriculture, Forestry, & Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM) Senator:
    • Must be a Agriculture (any specialty) and/or Aeronautical Sciences major. (CAFNRM programs)
  • College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) Senator:
    • Must be any major within the Humanities and/or Social Sciences. (CAS programs)
  • College of Natural & Health Sciences (CNHS) Senator:
    • Must be any major within the Natural Sciences and/or Health Sciences. (CNHS programs)
  • College of Business & Economics (COBE) Senator:
    • Must be a Business Administration (any specialty) and/or Accounting major. (COBE programs)
  • Ka Haka ‘Ula o Ke’elikolani College of Hawaiian Language (K'HUOK) Senator:
    • Must be a Hawaiian Studies and/or Linguistics major. (K'HUOK programs)
  • Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP) Senator:
    • Must be enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and/or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Pharmaceutical Sciences program
  • Graduate Senator:
    • Must be enrolled in any Graduate level program seeking a Master's or PhD degree equivalent.
  • Senator-at-Large: (4 positions)
    • Must be enrolled in any academic program.
