Summary:
In an effort to investigate the habitat of the palila bird, (Loxioides bailleui), an endangered Hawaiian honeycreeper that inhabits the 2600 meter elevation of the island of Hawaii, one year of climatological data that was gathered from the high altitude mamane forest (Sophora Chrysophylla / Myoporum sandwincense) on the Big Island of Hawaii were analysed. During this study, the interaction of trade wind inversion, thermal circulation, and surface climate was documented for solar radiation, air and soil temperature, humidity, wind direction and speed, rainfall, cloud water collection, and canopy throughfall.
