1) What if I'm accepted into the HSDE but can't enter my freshman year as planned?

Admission for the High School Direct Entry into Nursing program will not be deferred. Interested applicants who are not eligible for the direct entry program can enter UH Hilo as a traditional student in Exploratory Health Sciences following the pre-nursing course map and apply at the appropriate time for admission to the BSN program. Students accepted into the HSDE into Nursing will enter the program in the fall of their freshman year upon admittance to UH Hilo and will follow the curriculum program map when scheduling prerequisite courses.

2) What if I don't pass a prerequisite course with a "C" or better during the first and second year?

All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better prior to starting the BSN program during the third year of entry. A grade of "C-" (C minus) or lower will not be accepted, making the student ineligible to remain in the HSDE into Nursing program. Students who are not eligible for the direct entry program may continue their course of studies as a traditional student in Exploratory Health Sciences following the pre-nursing course map and apply during the appropriate time for admission to the BSN program. Students must meet all the requirements in order to maintain their position in the HSDE into Nursing program.

3) Who is my advisor?

Eligible students will be advised by the UH Hilo EXHS advisor(s) upon admission into the HSDE into Nursing program. The SON academic support and institutional support administrative assistants and the BSN Program Coordinator may provide additional assistance and support as well. The UH Hilo Admissions office can assist with the UH Hilo Freshman Application process and review of admission requirements.

4) Are there scholarships available?

The UH Hilo SON has nursing scholarships available for students who are beginning the BSN nursing program during years 3 and 4 of their HSDE into Nursing program. The UH Hilo Financial Aid office can assist with financial aid questions and the nursing scholarship application process.
