Databases
To find articles in periodicals on a specific topic, use one or more of the library's databases. The ones of most value in nursing are:
CINAHL with Full Text (EBSCO) (UH Hilo access)
Indexing and abstracts for over 1,700 current nursing and allied health journals and publications, with full text for more than 610 titles. Full-text coverage dates back to 1981.
Tutorials: Basic Search & Advanced Search Current Indexing to Nursing and Allied Health Literature via EBSCOhost (with full-text links) is the authoritative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators, and researchers. This database provides indexing and abstracts for over 1,700 current nursing and allied health journals and publications dating back to 1982, totaling over 920,000 records.
MEDLINE (EBSCO) (UH Hilo access)
The National Library of Medicine's database of citations and abstracts (not full-text) from 5,400 biomedical journals published in the U.S. and worldwide. Coverage extends back to 1948.
PubMed (Free access for all users)
More than 30 million citations for biomedical literature from MedLine, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.
Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) (UH Hilo access)
Over 9,000 full-text journals (about 8,000 peer-reviewed); PDF content for some dating back as far as 1887; searchable cited references provided for more than 1,500 journals.
Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition (EBSCO) (UH Hilo access)
Provides nearly 550 scholarly full-text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Also features the AHFS Consumer Medication Information, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names.

Nearly 80 full text consumer health magazines.
Consumer Health Complete [Multilingual] (EBSCO) (UH Hilo access)
Browseable resource with full-text articles from a variety of popular (non-academic) sources.
Alt-HealthWatch (EBSCO) (UH Hilo access)
In-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine. Full-text articles for more than 180 international journals and reports, many peer-reviewed. Indexing and abstracts go back as far as 1984, and full text goes back as far as 1990. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts.

Comprehensive collection of journal content in the sciences.

An index to literature in psychology. Contains the full text of articles and books from the publications of the American Psychological Association, entries from the Encyclopedia of Psychology, and citations to journals, books, reviews, and dissertations from other publishers.
Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCO) (UH Hilo access)
Over 500 journal titles indexed, many with full-text.
Sociology Collection (Licensed for UH Hilo users only)
Access to Sociological Abstracts in combination with other databases covering the international literature in sociology and social services, along with related fields. Provides abstracts, indexing and full-text coverage of journal articles, books, book chapters, dissertations, working papers, and more, including full-text from hundreds of leading sociology journals.
DynaMed Plus Clinical Reference Tool
DynaMed (Licensed for UH Hilo users only)
Content ranges from comprehensive reviews of diseases, conditions, and abnormal findings to highly focused topics on evaluation, differential diagnosis, and management. Drug and laboratory monographs developed and maintained by IBM Micromedex are also included.

Massive Discovery Databases
- Google Scholar indexes the full text of scholarly literature from a vast range of disciplines.
Loans from Other Libraries
If the Mookini Library does not have a journal article you want in its collections, you may still be able to obtain it on interlibrary loan. If UH Mānoa has the article, the turn-around time to receive the article can be very quick. Articles from non-UH libraries will take longer.
