National Student Employment Week: April 2025

U.S. National Student Employment Week (NSEW) is celebrated every second week of April, from April 13- April 19 this year. It sets aside seven full days of recognition, appreciation, and end encouragement for the student employees and employers.

Matlyn and Ritz are an integral part of our Admissions team. We appreciate their hard work and dedication to the organization, from being the first to answer the phone when it rings to being willing to work on the weekends to give tours to special populations, to working in the evenings to help set up for events. Xander is awesome! He is always willing to help and pitch in when needed, even when asked at the last minute to participate in things such as student panels. We are grateful for his hard work and dedication to making sure our Admissions office runs smoothly, going so far as to changing his work schedule to fill a gap in our office coverage. How to submit and message of appreciation?

Every year we provide supervisors the opportunity to express their appreciation for their student employees. Deadline to submit: We are no longer accepting submissions for 2024.

  • Supervisors are allowed more than one submission. Each submission can consist of up to three messages (for your convenience).
  • Multiple students can be named in each message, especially if sharing specific examples of their contribution!
  • Please make sure that the students first and last names are included. Student employees will be asked to submit a Media Release form.
  • We hope to share your messages as you have shared them with us.

Ways to Show Student Employees Your Appreciation

Using the 5 Love Languages

Receiving Gifts:

  • New opportunities & challenges
  • Bring food and snacks (department potluck; appreciation luncheon)
  • Nominate them for SEOTY awards!

Acts of Service:

  • Provide support
  • Offer to write a letter of recommendation (on LinkedIn too!)
  • Keep students interests in mind & provide career opportunities
  • Provide professional/ skill development directed towards SE interests

Quality Time:

  • Team building/ bonding
  • Appreciation board (All SE participate)
  • Create a tradition: End of semester office lunches, Friday coffees, etc.
  • One on ones” Ask your SE how school is going (allow them to be seen as someone outside of the workplace)

Words of Affirmation:

  • Provide feedback and mentorship
  • Recognize SE and what they do
  • Offer an evaluation of the workplace
  • Say “Thank You” throughout the year
