This document gives a description of Mauna Kea, its geographical position, and its location with regard to latitude and longitude. A description of why Mauna Kea is a unique astronomical observing site, an inventory of the telescopes that are on the summit, a history of the site, as well as information regarding the cultural and symbolic dimension are also provided.
