Wekiu bug Nysius wekiuicola Mauna Kea Science Reserve
Summary:
Reported an investigation into the seasonal fluctuations over one year of the population of the Wekiu bug and other arthropod populations within the Mauna Kea Science Reserve (MKSR). F.G. Howarth recommended four sampling periods over which to assess the seasonal fluctuations of arthropod activity. These sampling periods were summer melt, fall drought, winter melt, and spring melt. While it is difficult to assess the direct impact of weather factors on arthropod activity, changes that occur seasonally may be correlated with weather factors. The information may be useful when considering management activities within the MKSR.
