Summary:
The Hanipoe series consists of deep, well drained soils that formed in basic volcanic ash over aa lava flows. Hanipoe soils are on undulating ash fields of high elevation windward mountain slopes of Mauna Kea and have slopes of 0 to 20 percent. The mean annual rainfall is about 1016 millimeters (40 inches) and the mean annual temperature is about 13 degrees C (55 degrees F).
