Summary:
This document describes massive tree dieback that has occurred initially in 1960s in the Hawaiian Metrosideros polymorpha dorminated rainforests. Causes for dieback were investigated in biotic diseases, nutrogen deficiency, and succession. Comparisons are also made with other Pacific forest diebacks in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Japan, and the Galapagos islands.
