Subject:
Soils analysis Volcanic ash, tuff, etc. Lake Waiau
Summary:
Volcanic soil samples from the island of Hawaii were investigated to determine the secondary minerals present and the relationships between climate and secondary clay formation. A surface sample taken beneath the high water level at Lake Waiau was among them. The sample is medium acidic and has trace presence of microorganisms. It contains 18% clay which indicates that clay formation is slow, and thus, reflects the cold climatic condition and the low weathering pressures.
