- This document describes the history of the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory that houses a 10 meter radio dish that sits atop Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii. Through this telescope, dimensions are studied that detect galaxies that are hundreds of millions of light years away. Also described are the difficulties that one experiences when working at an altitude of 13,796 feet above sea level.
