Summary:
The diurnal variation of the winds near Hilo Airport was analyzed during the Hawaiian Rainband Project in July and August 1990. The cumulative rainfall is associated with the strength of island blocking. Windward island rainfall is at the peak around midnight and at the minimum near noon.
