- Summary:
- In Hawaii, the seedlings of the Koa (Acacia koa Gray) seem to emerge prolifically soon after the forest floor has been disturbed. This is especially true when the disturbance is caused by wildfire. However, since little quantitative data exists on the subsequent fate of seedlings after such emergence, this study was done with regard to the abundance, distribution, growth, and mortality of koa seedlings that occurred on two burned areas on Oahu. In addition, this study was done since forests that are made up of Koa trees is important to Hawaii's forest ecosystem.
