Summary:
Since Dubautia, Argyroxiphium, and Wilkesia, are endemic Hawaiian genera of an uncertain position within the Compositae and are characterized by species that are markedly different in habitat, a more thorough knowledge of the anatomical structure in these genera and in putatively related genera is desirable. As a result, the purpose of this study was to explore the variation pattern of anatomical characters in vegetative organs of the Dubautia, Argyroxiphisum, and Wilkesia, and to suggest which of these appear to be important in indicating relationships among the genera and to other genera. These data may be helpful in outlining the natural groups within the genus, Dubautia.
