Summary:
This document describes an abundant and widespread invasion of the Argentine ant, (Iridomyrmex humilis Myar), that occurred at Fort Shafter on the island of Oahu in Hawaii in the 1940s. It was predicted that if the Argentine ant secured a foothold in the islands, that it may not only exterminate the Pheidole megacephala but might also wipe out the indigenous ant fauna that exist below the 3000 foot elevation.
