Lake sediments
- Summary:
- Lying within a cinder cone that is located within an inactive volcano known as Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii, Lake Waiau lies within a cinder cone that sits 3970 meters above sea level. This lake appears to have been a natural trap for sedimentary materials since the lake was formed. As a result, these sediments indicate ash falls and other airborne and waterborne materials for a period that is estimated to have extended back into the Pleistocene time. Described here are experiments that were done in an effort to better date these sediments.
