Summary:
This document describes how the Argentine ant (Iridomyrmex humilis) became established in portions of the high-elevation shrubland of the Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii, and the effect that this ant species had on many of the locally endemic and rare arthropod fauna of the area. As a result, pitfall trapping and under-rock surveys were conducted to determine how extensive the effects that the I. humilis had on the local arthropod fauna. Following the survey, it was determined that active management of Argentine ant populations would be necessary if the endemic fauna is to be preserved.
