About Kilohana

Our Mission

Kilohana's mission is to support the learning and retention of all UH Hilo students by encouraging you to become independent, self-motivated learners.

Kilohana peer staff work from two locations on campus. These are the Science, Math, and Writing Centers in LRC 123 (first floor of the Mookini Library) and the Computer Science Center in College Hall (CH) 11.

All Kilohana peer staff are UH Hilo students selected for their dedication to helping others succeed and their academic achievements. All Kilohana student staff also complete a rigorous training program.

Kilohana emphasizes support for historically challenging classes and gateway courses essential for multiple majors by providing knowledgeable peer staff and other resources from a wide range of subjects.

Kilohana's primary mission involves peer staff helping student visitors become confident, independent, and self-motivated learners who will eventually be able to do their own work without a peer staff at their side.

The UH Hilo Student Conduct Code is in effect at all times in all Kilohana Centers and Kilohana sponsored events.
