Gene Expression Analysis

Chart of Gene Expression levels of various genes versus healthy tissues

What is gene expression?

DNA is what codes for every cellular process within all living organisms. A gene is a unit of DNA that codes for a specific function. Genes are expressed, or “turned on and off,” by translating the information encoded in DNA into proteins. The level to which genes are expressed can therefore provide information as to the biological processes that are occurring within an organism. This in turn can tell a lot about the health of the organism. By identifying genes that play a role in specific diseases, we may be able to detect the presence of a disease before there are physical symptoms.
