Editor's Note

Aloha Vulcans,

The Ke Kalahea team is hopeful that you have trudged through midterm season without too many casualties, and that you’re ready to unwind with some much-needed entertainment and stimulation in the form of a fresh copy of your student newspaper.

This month one of our graphic designers Lucky Lemieux experienced a casualty when their tablet broke down a week before deadline. With the help of our rusty in-office tablet* and our other graphic designer Stacy Watkins, Lucky created many of the graphics in this issue. Check out the back cover for the monthly installment of “Freshman Feathers” in which Lucky’s character “Birb” struggles with creation via inferior equipment.

Birb may feature in this issue in other ways, depending on how lucky you are. This month, we unveil “Golden Birb,” 18 golden “coins” that, if found in your copy, entitles you to a free, exclusive swag bag full of Birb themed merch! If you don’t find one this month, look out again for the rest of the year, as there will be Golden Birbs in Ke Kalahea issues until the spring semester ends.

Happy reading,
Lichen Forster
