The construction of the Japanese National Large Telescope (JNLT) and associated facilities at Mauna Kea will require an Environmental Assessment. A field survey of the botanical resources found within the dormitory area at Hale Pohaku and a review of the literature and summary of the flora at the telescope site at the summit of Mauna Kea were conducted for the assessment in August 1990. The primary objectives of the botanical assessment were to: 1) describe the general vegetation; 2) take and inventory of the flora and; 3) search for threatened and endangered plant species protected by Federal and State laws.
