Subject:
Predatory animals control Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) Military bases environmental aspects
Summary:
To reduce or eliminate the damage caused by alien animals, such as rats, mongoose, feral cats, feral dogs, and feral ungulates, to the natural resource areas on Department of Defense land in Hawaii, predator-proof fencing was selected as an effective way to achieve this. Island Conservation received funding from the DoD Legacy Resource Management Program and prepared a list of candidate sites. PTA is among the top four sites. Complete implementation plans for the top priority sites, including pre- and post-fence biological monitoring, eradication, and cost benefit analyses were developed.
