Summary:
Feral cats that are present on Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the island of Hawaii and pose a threat to native and endangered wildlife. The objective and methods used in this study, as well as information regarding the feline diet, daily movements, home ranges and their sizes, population genetics, and the diseases that afflict the feral cats of these areas, (such as toxoplasmosis, the feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV)), are included in this study. Also described are the differences in behavior between the male and female populations.
