Subject:
Hawaii Island history Saddle House Cattle Ranching Hawaii
Summary:
Rich in Hawaii's history is the ranching industry. While some view the advent of the vaquero trio in 1832, as agents for King Kamehameha III, as the beginning of the cattle industry, the harvesting of beef, tallow and hide was a commercial enterprise in at least two preceding decades. This document gives accounts of the ranching history on Hawaii Island around Saddle House Complex (SHC) from the early 19th century to the late 20th century.
