This report describes how to mark the navigation stars on a gourd and their Hawaiian names such as "Na alanui o na hoku hookele" (the highways of the Navigation stars), "Na hoku ai-aina" (the stars which rule the land), "Na hoku o ka lewa (foreign, strange or outside stars), Hoku paa" (North Star), or "Newe" (Southern Cross).
