Hawaii's extinction crisis: a call to action
Year:
1991
Subject:
Endangered species Environmental protection
Summary:
The Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources, The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii joined together to issue this report on the status of Hawaii's nature heritage. Recent developments point to an urgent need for increased action in Hawaii on the part of the three organizations, and by all who are concerned about the future of our planet. Federal efforts to accelerate the listing and recovery of endangered Hawaiian species have resulted in a much clearer picture of the current status of species "on the brink." The facts are compelling - we are losing key species at an alarming rate, and reliable funding must be increased to save what remains.
