Summary:
The project is part of an international network (Mountain Invasion Research Network, MIREN) where the same weeds are studied in mountain areas around the globe. The project involves spatial bioclimatic modeling of the species distribution and the microclimate. As part of the project, two temporary meteorological stations along Saddle Road (1000 m asl, 1550 m asl), and one temporary meteorological station along Mauna Kea access roads (3010 m asl) were setup. A first survey of alien weeds, with particular focus on European weeds, was done along both roads.
