Summary:
The authors acquired multi-year ground temperature data and conducted electrical resistivity and ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys at two cinder-cone craters on the summit of Maunakea volcano. While ice-bearing permafrost is still present in Puuwekiu crater, its volume has schrunk by an order of magnitude between 1973 and 2015. The permafrost in Puuhaukea crater is still more than 50 m wide.
