Subject:
Manua Kea Ice Mars Permafrost Woodcock, Alfred H. Puu Wekiu
Summary:
The author, Norbert Schorghofer (U of Hawaii), and Matthias Leopold (U of Western Australia) conducted a field study of permafrost at the Puu Wekiu crater bottom. They placed sensors - steel electrodes - to measure temperatures underground. The result shows that the subsurface ice still exists but its area and volume have shrunk substantially over the past half-century.
