Board of Land and Natural Resources Controversy Mauna Kea Comprehensive Management Plan
Summary:
The state Board of Land and Natural Resources held a meeting on Feb. 13 to discuss the draft of Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP). The plan addresses the use of three areas on the mountain: the Mauna Kea Science Reserve, Hale Pohaku, and the summit access road. Dawn Chang, the draft author, and several native Hawaiian cultural practitioners presented their views about the CMP. Board chair Laura Thielen said that she wasn't sure who would be responsible for making many of the decisions required by the plan.
