The vision of the Mauna Kea Watershed Alliance (MKWA) is to protect and enhance watershed ecosystems, biodiversity and resources through responsible management, while promoting economic sustainability and providing recreational, subsistence, educational and research opportunities. This management plan describes Mauna Kea’s watershed resources and associated values, identifies the threats to those resources, and directs the activities of the MKWA toward their protection. This document establishes management goals and objectives, and recommends specific actions to implement these goals and objectives, to the benefit of Mauna Kea’s unique watershed resources. The area addressed by this plan encompasses over 525,000 acres of land.
