The first part is "Hawaiian Birds" by E. H. Bryan, Jr. of B. P. Bishop Museum. He gave a brief historical background of Hawaiian ornithology by naturalists from around the world in Hawaii since 1778. Followed by a summary of Hawaiian birds (232 species), as well as the challenges in conservation of the Hawaiian birds. The second part is "Check-list of the birds of the Hawaiian Islands" by Bryan and Greeway. The third part is "The Generic arrangement of the drepanidinae" by James Greenway, Jr.
