Approximately $94 million has been spent on avian research and management in Hawaii over the past decade, which has made a substantial contributions to the local economies. Yet, only one firm success in restoring Nene from the edge of extinction to more than 300 birds on two islands. Integrating ecotourism and bird restoration effort may generate future funding for saving native Hawaiian birds.
