Summary:
This study shows that the alpha taxonomy of the Hawaiian honeycreepers currently in use has a solid foundation in phenotypic characters. hypothesized relationships of the Hawaii Creeper with akepas based on mtDNA studies, or to anakihis based on osteology, are incompatible with hypotheses based on a wide range of other characters.
