- Summary:
- The authors measured inorganic and organic nutrients in 24 Hawaii Island streams. Particulate matter comprised of 45% nitrogen, 73% phosphorus, and 28% carbon pools. Dissolved nitrogen was made up of organic nitrogen (54%) and nitrate (34%). In Mauna Kea streams, elevated nutrient concentrations have been observed with increasing watershed area, population density, and agricultural lands.
