The islands of Hawaii, Maui, and Oahu were chosen by the geothermal energy exploration class to be the sites of the annual geothermal field trip that took place from March 6 - 15, 1981. This guidebook contains a brief history of geothermal development in Hawaii, the tectonic setting of the Hawaiian islands, descriptions of the experiments that were done, as well as the conclusions and recommendations that resulted from the studies. It also includes geological and geophysical data, a cultural history of the Hawaiian Islands, and road logs of the field trips taken to the Kilauea Caldera, the Southeast Rift Zone of Kilauea Volcano, the Humuula Saddle Road and Northwestern Hawaii, the island of Maui, and the island of Oahu.
