- Summary:
- Dr. Kuiper described the current status and schedules for the Mauna Kea test station. The six miles road below Hale Pohaku is in need of repair. $100,000 have been appropriated for road work on Mauna Kea next year."...the road to Mauna Kea will be one of the most scenic in the entire United States." There are three potential sites for scientific equipment: Site A (Puu Poliahu); Site B about 600 ft. due north and 20 ft. lower; Site C about 300 ft to the east and 40 ft. lower. An area of 2000 ft. x 2000 ft. centered on Puu Poliahu should be reserved for scientific purposes. Measures should be taken to protect Lake Waiau as well, a potential potable water supply. Signages are also needed to protect the scientific operations.
